Dear partners,<br>
<br>
For your information the MoU has been signed between ORCID, TANDEM
and Sci-GaiA. <br>
<br>
The idea is to encourage the use of DOI and ORCID in otder to make
African scientists and their scientific products more visible,
findable and citable.<br>
<br>
You can find the document on community.wacren.net (<a

<br>
For your information and comments. <br>
<br>
My view is that this is the sort of synergy we want between
the projects. <br>

Like the free SSL certificates we got from Comodo in Sci-GaIA
- <br>

<br>
an agreement as proposed gives WACREN (and UA) the space to
think this <br>
through and understand how we sustain a broader agreement. <br>
<br>
At this point, I think the RRENs are ultimately best served
being <br>
Registration Authorities in their respective regions but we
can decide <br>
this at some later point. In the meantime, we want to move on
with <br>
Sci-GaIA project needs and provide additional means of
engaging with the <br>
end-users in TANDEM. <br>
<br>
We are only having a discussion for now but the final
agreement is not <br>
likely to differ much from the attached draft. <br>

Look forward to your feedback <br>

Many thanks <br>

<br>
Dear Simon and All, <br>
<br>
As you can read in the following thread on the forum: <br>
<br>
<a moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="http://discourse.sci-gaia.eu/t/integrating-persistent-identifiers-for-data-and-people-into-sci-gaia-services">http://discourse.sci-gaia.eu/t/integrating-persistent-identifiers-for-data-and-people-into-sci-gaia-services</a>
<br>
<br>
in the last 2-3 weeks we've been discussing with DataCite and
ORCID <br>
people the possibility to use their DOIs to tag the records of
the <br>
Sci-GaIA Open Access Repository and those of the clones that
will <br>
eventually be deployed in Africa. <br>
<br>
Unlike handles from Handle.Net, which we are currently using
thanks to <br>
the help of Omo who setup a handle server at WACREN, science
products <br>
(papers, data, software, etc.) tagged with DataCite DOIs can
be <br>
automatically claimed by their author(s) in their ORCID
profiles. <br>
That would be a great advantage to make African scientists and
their <br>
scientific products more visible, findable and citable. <br>
<br>
DataCite and ORCID people are very interested in framing the <br>
collaboration in a Memorandum of Understanding with their THOR
project <br>
(<a moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated"
href="http://www.project-thor.eu">www.project-thor.eu</a>)
and TANDEM could/would also be very interested in <br>
joining the MoU. So, Bruce, Omo and I have drafted the
attached document <br>
and we are asking here your opinion on it. Please, have a look
in <br>
particular at the Annex that contains the topics of
collaboration and <br>
feel free to add/remove all points you deem necessary/useful.
<br>
<br>
Tomorrow at 11:00 CEST there will be a webmeeting with some
DataCite and <br>
ORCID representatives and it would be extremely good if we
could be <br>
allowed to share the document with them beforehand. <br>
<br>
@Omo & Simon: could you also quickly check with the TANDEM
management <br>
and confirm their interest in joining the MoU ? <br>
<br>
Thank you very much in advance and apologies for the short
notice. <br>
<br>
ciao <br>
<br>
Roberto <br>
